Now that travelling abroad has re-opened we can all indulge in our love for exploring new sights and sounds. Berlin is under 2 hours from London by plane which makes it a perfect long weekend destination. Berlin is a city with an incredible history but also one which has embraced stunning new architecture. There are so many things to see and do that it’s hard to narrow it down. Here are our top 4 ideas of things to do on a weekend in Berlin.

1. WWII

If you have an interest in all things WWII then you will find that you will be fully occupied in Berlin. Everywhere you look you will find things of interest.

The Reichstag Building which is Berlin’s Parliament Building, restored after WWII, was the seat of the Weimar Republic Government before being seized by the Nazis in 1933.

The documentation of Topography of Terror is a museum – not for the faint hearted – which provides information to the general public about the most important institutions of National Socialist persecution and terror. You can book on to a tour for further in depth history.

The Holocaust Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe seems to divide opinion. It’s worth a visit to make up your own mind. The memorial was opened in 2005 and covers 19,000 square metres. There is an underground museum which is definitely worth visiting while you are there.

2. The Berlin Wall

A visit to Berlin wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Berlin Wall memorial. Whilst you are here you should visit the free Documentation Center. The history comes alive here with so much to learn via photographs and videos. There is a platform at the top of the Documentation Center which will afford you a panoramic view of the Berlin Wall Memorial with an intact portion of the wall.

3. Tiergarten

Providing a much needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the City, the Tiergarten is a huge lush park which is highly recommended.
