The world we live in has changed, and with climate change and global warming to contend with, we should be paying attention to the environment now more than ever. This is where parents should be showing their children how they can be more eco-friendly and conscious about the environment.
In this guide from a pre school in Surrey, we take a look at the ways you can help your child become more conscious about the world we live in and quick ways to make a difference.
Pick up child friendly books that talk about the planet
As climate change has become a very important subject to discuss, there are now many books your child can read and explore to help them understand what it means for us and the planet. Read through these books together with your child and let them learn how they can make a difference. Talk to them about their feelings, ask how they feel when they learn about these things and what can be done to make changes in the home.
Make eco-friendly changes a game
Making an activity fun is always a good shout for teaching kids. You can play a game with the bins at home, by letting them wash the plastic and ask them to put the rubbish in the right bin. Use quick fire questions to let your child be reminded about the impact plastic can have on the planet, and swap out toys for environmentally beneficial ones.
Take part in litter picking
A good fun activity for kids and adults is litter picking. Your child is getting first hand experience at the problem we have with waste and how left over rubbish can damage our environment and wildlife. This will also show your child how much waste we do leave out on a regular basis, making them more aware of how we can all do our part to make the world a better place.
